GP Assistant

I think the Universe was trying to tell me something yesterday, below is a clipping from yesterday’s paper, a joke about GP assistants. The appointment went well today, I filed a complaint… In my case the assistant was patronising me, talking to me like I was a 13 year old child. It happened before, several times actually. I’m an adult woman, I don’t wish to be spoken to like a kid leaving me the impression that I’d done something wrong.

The GP even mumbled some kind of apology today and said she would talk to her assistant. The problem (that wasn’t really a problem to begin with, just a misunderstanding) why she had to see me was solved once I showed her my previous records. All of this took about three hours, just to rectify something, three hours of which one hour and half spent in the waiting room… The positive side is, that it’s solved and I got what I came for… Justification…

Cartoon below:

  1. Many believe that doctor assistants are not friendly
  2. You wish to see the doctor? What are the complaints?
  3. …That his assistant is extremely brusque, impertinent and grumpy.

  1. Lol, nice one!
I also hate when they talk to me as if I was clueless (A few weeks back, the nurse told me: “You know that the pill won’t work for you because of all the antibiotics you have taken lately?” So I answered that I did know, and she would then ask: “Do you know what you need to do?” Seriously… no, I have no idea. I guess that I’ll just pray to the Eastern European gods and surely I won’t get pregnant. Sheesh. What did she think of me?)

  2. Some people are very patronising because they are close to highly qualified people and they think they also are :) It reminds me of an interesting scene…have you seen ‘Juno’? When the nurse is patronising her and even being rude…her comments were totally out of line. Nice cartoon :)

Sorry if you receive this comment twice. There is a problem refreshing or something when submitting.

  3. *LOL* that’s what I was thinking as well, she behaved like she was the freakin doctor *LOL*, you’re so right! No I haven’t seen Juno but you got me curious now *hehe* I received your comment twice… but it’s not a problem, that’s odd actually: I will look into this!
