Happy Design(er)

Posted on April 6, 2009 by Zesty Gal

I’ve been busy designing my stationery and I’m having a ball! I’ve finished a lot and I can’t wait to send it off to the printer as soon as possible. Last week a client told me that they’ve decided to use my website design to brand their whole product range which is great news. I’ve already designed their business cards and I’m currently working for them on a swing ticket design: they’ll be matt black with the floral print in varnish and a white logo, it will be printed in China, it turned out to be much cheaper since they’ll need a start quantity of at least 10.000.

I received a really nice email from another client last Friday, he had asked some of hís clients to have a look at the website I built for him and he forwarded their response to me. Tiny snippet: “I have just had a look at the website and it is very sleek and professional looking, if I ever sort out a website I’ll get her details from you”. Another snippet from another person: “Hi, had a look at it and really like the booking via credit card pages. Guess you’re ready to go!” It’s always good to know that others appreciate your work as well.

This is not just a compliment to me about my design skills but also a compliment to the client, perhaps even a confirmation and/or affirmation that he/she made the right choice in designer. The sun is shining and I’ve just received approval on a quote. I’ve accomplished a lot and I feel good about it, so I’d better crack on with things. I’ve finished the restyling of my logo and I’m really happy with it, below is the final design which I’ll be using for my stationery.

Manga Look

I haven’t done anything interesting lately except for work but I guess that depends on what you consider interesting. To me certain things are exciting which to others might not be that exciting at all *hehe*. I finally have a moment to breathe before I’ll be working on more projects. I need to finish the design of business cards for another client but had to postpone this until I got the results back from the printer, I would like to use spot UV for his cards as well.

I’m also asked to design an accountants website which to me is a challenge because it will involve certain widgets, scripts etc. like tax calculators. So I’m doing research to see if it needs coding and if I can do it myself or if I’d need someone to do this for me or provide the service. A cool challenge and a perfect addition to my portfolio since it needs the commercial and professional look and feel of an accountancy firm.

I received the five different sets of business cards from the printer last week and they look absolutely stunning especially with the spot UV added, which gives that luxurious feel and the client was extremely happy with them. I was slightly disappointed about the colours at first but I was just nagging, I’m actually very satisfied. The printer was slow and caused me some extra grey hairs *hehe* but it all worked out just fine.

The result was so good that I’m thinking of having my own cards printed, they’re so outdated. I started a redesign a while ago but never finished it. I adjusted my logo and turned it into a more friendly manga-like character when I designed my new Flash website in ’06. I’m offered free advertising space inside a London cab! The driver will promote me [do the talk and hand out my cards], so no more excuses to postpone the new look!

Along with the touching up of my logo character and the redesign of my business cards, I’ll have to think of a strategic well marketed cab advert which is quite large in size, one for me and one for the driver as well. I’m gonna be busy but in a satisfying way! Which side of the cab shall I put my ad: left or right?

She’s gonna look SO cool with spot UV wings!
