Swine Or Sheep?

It seems I had to get a Swine Flu jab this morning. I’d been wondering about it: I’m eligible because I’m part of a so-called ‘risk group’ *no I ain’t thát old, hehe* but I didn’t receive information nor was I told anything when I went to get the regular flu jab weeks ago. So I was kinda surprised to hear that I was expected to show up this morning. Next week they’ve organised another day which will be the last of the sequence to get the first of two jabs…

But I’ve made up my mind months ago: I won’t be taking any precaution. I still feel that the whole situation is blown way out of proportions and a sickening media hype. Plus… why would I want to take risks? The vaccine hasn’t been tested properly and not much is known about the side effects. If I get ill then I’ll get ill… too bad, but in this particular case I’d rather let things take its natural course than try to influence them by taking more risks, it’s just not worth it.

I refuse to be the next sheep in line to follow the herd blindly…

H1N1 Approaching

My best friend sent me an email two days ago telling me she, hubby and kids have swine flu… I realise I didn’t take swine flu too serious (I still don’t by the way) but all of a sudden it is very close to home… Let me rephrase that: I don’t take the whole media hype too serious, I never have and I never will. Media is a strong powerful tool and if it’s not used carefully it could be extremely damaging to certain people.

I’ve noticed the media tends to exaggerate big time and make a fuss about things before the facts are clear. Same deal with swine flu which has been less dangerous so far than the run-of-the-mill flu. The normal seasonal influenza is a much bigger health problem each year. The media caused a scare as usual especially since there’s too many gullible people who believe everything they read, see or hear.

Nevertheless my friend is not feeling ok and nor does her family so from here I’ll send them a big fat hug and I wish them well! *Hugs honey, get well soon!!!*
