Penthouse

We wanted to get into town but ended up driving around looking for properties in nice areas. I love the townhouses in Hackney, they remind me of the Dutch houses downtown, very old, with steps up to the front door and a basement with a kitchen; very nice! The only downside was parking; it’s hectic in Hackney and parking would be a pain.

We have been looking for houses while we were still in the Lowlands and found a really cool apartment in an industrial area but we never really looked into it. So I asked A. to take me there, just to see what we would’ve missed out on. So we ended up driving around the industrial site looking for the entrance of the building when the security guy outside the gate told us we could come in and have a look.

So we parked the car and walked around a bit when he came over and told us we could actually have a look inside. He gave us the keys to two two-bedroom apartments, they were really nice but way to small for us and very hard to organise; there was hardly any storage space, in fact none and we really need three bedrooms so we can have people over to stay, stash all our crap in one room and have our office space in the other.

There was only one three bedroom apartment left which was on the sixth floor, the security guy gave us the keys and we went into the elevator up to the sixth floor. It was a huge penthouse [102 Sq M] with an amazing view of the city, laminate flooring throughout, a huge huge! terrace, a huge living room, two bedrooms ensuite, one had a bathroom with toilet and bath, the other had a bathroom with shower cubicle and toilet. And the third bedroom was on the opposite side of the lounge.

It was amazing and we are having serious doubts now about the house next door which A. is planning to buy, since it is the same amount of money but much much much bigger. It’s just the location that we were not really happy with. A really dodgy place and I know I wouldn’t feel happy having to walk around there in the middle of the night or even when it gets dark early. Another problem was public transport and since the Olympic Village will be build nearby transport will probably get worse as in busy. We will have to get some more info and think hard…

Here are a few pictures that I found online, some are from a different apartment but have pretty much the same feel, size etc. just to get an impression:

Half an Hour

I allowed myself to use the internet for half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the evening. Just to relax a bit and write something on here or surf the net. I need my daily dosage of internet. Today I have to go to the post office and mail off 19 letters to France, the UK and the Netherlands and a package to Scotland [I promised A. to take care of his mail too so it’s not all mine].
Then I will have most of the day to sort out boxes and in the evening vulture #2 will have a look at the apt. Hopefully he will accept some of the stuff that we would like to leave here so I don’t have to rip it all out. It’s going to be a hectic move. Landlords these days or not that easy going anymore. AS. was surprised to hear what we will have to do still before we move out; remove shelves and fill holes in walls, remove carpets, clean the house etc. It will take another day to sort all this out.
It would have been easier if JK. could’ve taken the place because we already discussed what she wanted me to leave behind, which was most of the stuff that we will have to throw out now. She was also willing to pay the deposit. I guess all this happens for a reason and I’m trying hard not to think too much about it and accept things the way they are, which is hard at times. Chantal will come over and meet up tomorrow evening. I promised her my espresso machine. On Friday DM. will come over for coffee and hopefully she will take one of the workbenches that are in the spare room.
I’d rather give it to friends instead of having to throw everything out. Last week I’ve put some stuff outside the day previous to collecting the garbage and everything was gone the next morning. I was very pleased with that. It means people took it and hopefully will use it. I chucked out a crappy BBQ but that thing was gone too. Amazing to see what people take. I hope they will enjoy it! It’s such a shame to throw out perfectly good stuff and watching it getting wrecked by the garbage truck.
Anyways, I’d better start the day since I had my half an hour already and get into my favourite thing to do… Talk later
