I need to vent for a second… I wonder how much one should take from a client. I’m doing them an immense favour and if I was to charge them all the extra hours they would be waaaaaaaaay over budget by now. This project should take two months at the most and they don’t seem to be aware that the project is already taking five months just because they don’t deliver and they refuse any cooperation. Everything I need from them seems to cause aggravation like I’m not allowed to ask for content that they should’ve delivered in the first place.
It’s a simple matter of having content ready or getting it ready so I can finish their website. I shouldn’t have to ask for things and if I still have to then not more than once or twice, certainly not each week for five months in a row… I’ve learned: they moved way down my priority list and I don’t care anymore if their autumn/winter collection is going to be finished and online in spring, I stopped caring. They’ve been a pain from the start, they don’t show any appreciation for what I’m doing and I’m on the verge of telling them to shove it somewhere dark.
Wow… I feel so much better now: on to more interesting and fruitful challenges. I don’t need the aggro today: if they can make me wait I can make them wait too *hehe*.
Vent away…. I’ve done more then my share.
That’s always a tough question about how much to take.
Pretty sure I know which one, but I can’t believe it’s been five months already….wow.
Well, if they don’t deliver what can you do?
Except maybe give them a firm deadline when you need everything, then any alterations afterwards have extra fees.
I’ll let ya vent here… my feets are cold :-O
Yes… five months and still counting, sad huh? I’ve finished the product pictures yesterday so today I will put them in the system. I promised myself to work about three hours a day for them and spend the rest of my time on other websites.
Oh believe me I have given them multiple deadlines already they just don’t seem to be interested in the whole project. I want to do this my way and finish it so I’ll be sure that what’s online will represent me and will look good so I can use it as a showcase.
I can’t trust them to have the same standards as I have because they don’t, I’ve seen it with the old website: no consistency and really bad ‘cleaning’ of backgrounds etc. When this is done I’ll send them a fake invoice… then they might realise…
Of da box…
Feets? *LOL*
Sounds like a frustrating situation and I can relate with it as I hate chasing people especially when it is in their best interest to deliver something…Isn’t this world weird? I think the attitude you have adopted is the best one. I have done so in the past too and there is no point in worrying because someone is being irresponsible. When things are out of our control it is better to let them be.
I agree with Jim that giving them a deadline sounds like a good idea and the bit of the extra alterations is just fantastic so that they stop wasting your time. But then again since you have given them multiple deadlines sounds like a catchy situation indeed…
The extra charges seems to be the best solution then.
It looks like those guys have huge problems in their company and they are not serious at all…maybe they have internal office politics that make them act that irresponsibly…scary…
I appreciate your honesty so much Wen, it’s always so nice to read the thoughts of like-minded people and honest people seem to be rare these days. I feel at times like I’m odd or weird in my perceptions but Jim and you make me realise that I’m not, it’s a way for me to grow which both of you offer through your comments, I really appreciate that, it’s a gift both of you give me probably without realising, so I’d like to say thank you!
The problem is that there is no hierarchy within the company, there are two directors both men and one woman who is brand manager. Each have their own thing to do within the company but none of them take responsibility or take the lead which is a common mistake made within any organisation when three are -more or less- at the same level/position. One should take the lead which reminds me of something that Jim told me about a similar situation… It will cause problems and that’s what I’m dealing with as an outsider. Also it’s a small company, five in total, so when the shit hits the fan it hits hard
I just wish for closure, it’s becoming a drag…
They indeed have problems, again I appreciate your insight: you are very good at analysing
Catchy situation… yes because I do need the showcase but on the other hand I don’t wish to be treated like this. I keep hours on paper, another way for me to keep an eye on things
Thanks for your support! Both of you! *hugs!*
You’re welcome
That’s what friends are for

My life has been enriched so much thanks to some wonderful persons I have met through blogging and the support I have found is amazing too. They are not too many but rest assured that you are definitely among them and I am happy for that
Will keep my fingers crossed so that the catchy situation goes away. When things become a drag it is best to hope for closure.
Have a great week,
