It’s simple…
The Netherlands: a country
Noord Holland and Zuid Holland; two of twelve provinces of The Netherlands… [so no countries]
‘Holland’ is a region consisting of these 2 provinces: Noord Holland and Zuid Holland
The other 10 provinces of the Netherlands are not Holland.
Telling someone from Utrecht, Arnhem, Eindhoven, Groningen or Maastricht that they come from Holland is like telling someone from Glasgow or Cardiff that they come from ‘England’..!
I’m born in The Netherlands, South of Holland… it makes me a Dutch, Eurasian, Indo Leidsche Glibber…
[don’t ask me to explain that to you it is too complicated, trust me…]

Herring and Bread
Today I’m supposed to eat ‘haring en witte brood’ [‘herring and white bread’, the type of bread that has no fibre in it at all] according to costums of the city where I was born some odd time ago. Each year they keep up the festivities and traditions. I miss herring and I reckon the first thing I will do when I head back to the Lowlands some day is eating a herring or two from the best haring shop in town situated on the bridge towards Surinameplein at the end of the Overtoom… Read more here…
