New Domain

I have bought a new domain and have been trying to install Movable Type for days… I didn’t succeed at first and thought it was a bug but found out that it actually was some server setting with my ISP. After sending them several emails about it they finally fixed the problem. Of course they had to ask me all sorts of silly questions first in order to test my IQ, I’m a woman after all and what do they know about, MySQL databases, CGI scripts, PHP, plugins, installing CMS software etc.?

Of course the problem was my config file… -according to one of their responses- because I forgot to put in the settings of the database that I was going to use… [do they honestly think I am that stupid?] I didn’t had a chance yet to configure the config file through my browser since I got an instant 500 server error, or a 404… *duh* To those of you out there who would like to test my IQ too, I will explain these errors but only if you really insist…

;)

So I made it clear to them that I didn’t even start installing yet because I couldn’t get the proper page to show in my browser. Yes I used all the technical jargon and finally it got through to them that the problem might be at their end and after waiting for six hours it was finally solved. My MT installation page was showing and I started installing MT 3.34 [same version as the one you’re reading at the mo]. But then I thought: ‘I might as well try to install MT 4.0 again and see if it does work this time, since the problem turned out to be ISP related.’

To my surprise [but then again *not*] I managed to get the job done and after playing with it for a while I have to admit it’s pretty neat and it seems to be a lot faster than this blog. So bear with me dear friends, I am busy with a brand new design and a brand new blog. See it as another step that I needed to take in order to get something back that I lost somewhere along the line and guess what… it feels good!

This domain will be gone in a while, I will send some of you out there an email about this, to those who would like to get the new url, drop me a line…

Note

I seem to be having problems with my database connection at times. I noticed it a while ago and had it sorted out by my ISP. It happened again last week when Elle tried to leave me a comment and I’m happy she mentioned it in an email to me [thanks again!] so I could sort it out. Today I had the same problem…
So if you experience an error like this: Got an error: Bad ObjectDriver config: Connection error: Too many connections, then please be patient and try again at some other time or send me an email. Apparently a server needs a reboot according to my ISP and it seems to be a ‘common’ problem with MT and MySQL according to the web. There are more people out there experiencing the same issue with Movable Type.
Perhaps it’s a bug, but they [MT] say it’s not… So for now I’m stuck and will have to contact my ISP about this whenever it occurs.
