Souvenir d’un Lieu Cher

There’s something about Sunday mornings, I think they’re magical, especially when the city is still asleep from a long weekend partying. It’s the total silence and the absence of human activity that affects me and knowing that I can enjoy that special moment for a while before it will be gone again for another week.

This morning when I woke up I found myself staring into the back gardens. There was a thin layer of white glistening frost covering the grass, trees and fences. I saw a big fat collared dove sitting quietly, all fluffy, ruffled feathers, trying to catch a bit of warmth from the morning sun. I was wondering where his mate was so they could warm up sitting next to each other.

Then the movement of leaves caught my eye and a smile appeared on my face. I saw a squirrel bouncing around in one of the trees. He paused every now and then to eat and after a while he continued his acrobatic dance jumping from branch to branch, from tree to tree. Squirrels are the epitome of elegant balance and perfection to me, embracing their habitat in their graceful ways.

That’s exactly how I would like my life to be… All that was missing this morning to compliment my thoughts and views was Melodie Opus 42 No.3 by Tchaikovsky.

  1. Guess I should try to get up earlier on Sundays :) That squirrel is adorable!!!

  2. Bitter Chocolate: I’m not a morning person at all but I do love Sunday mornings ;) Give it a try I’m sure you’ll see what I mean.

Squirrel is cute huh? He actually waited for me to take the picture, I seem to have that effect on animals *tune in to their vibes*. I have another one that you might like better… I’ll put it below this one, my gift to you… Hope you had a good weekend!

  3. Cute sine ;-)
Know what ya mean about Sundays.
Yet for me it’s most any morning but before sunrise.
    Today I’ll be out very early… 02:00 :-O
There’s a new blanket of snow that hasn’t been marked up too much yet as I head out to the store and PO (24 hour businesses were invented for me).
You know I don’t like cold—not enough natural insulation, or bluntly…. fat ;-)
But I know it will be nice out while most sleep and that blanket muffles sounds even more…. peaceful.

  4. Jim: *hehe*… yes very cute sine, haven’t seen yours in ages though :(

Sundays to me are special because in a city it’s the only time where it actually doesn’t feel like a city… if you know what I mean ;) Your situation is another extreme *LOL*

Oh don’t tell me about white blankets, I envy you now :) Wish I could’ve gone with you… quiet and yes peaceful. Actually the crispy sound of that blanket is so nice to hear when it’s that quiet. Hope you enjoyed and that it wasn’t too cold.

*Mmmm* you make me all dreamy now :)

  5. Not many sines come by my window or chomp their nuts on my railing since spook moved here… maybe next year (if I’m unlucky enough to still be here).

Yes I know what you mean, but here these days it seems cities never sleep. So I was surprised to have one of the main commuter highways into Detroit almost all to myself the other morning around 04:00 (glad too as ice/snow was coming down).

Not too cold, but then that means the snow won’t crunch ;-)

  6. Can’t you spook spook? ;) Hmmm I wonder how you’ll deal with LDN then… ;) There is never quiet around here only on Sunday mornings… and no crunchy crispy snow either… Perhaps we should think of Scotland and join my friend, get some sheep and live the life ;) :P

    You will be lucky!

  7. I also love Sunday mornings :) I feel happy to know that my day is my day…no running around, no office :)

How nice to be able to be so close to nature…unfortunately in Malta it is almost impossible to see birds let alone squirrels :( There are many hunters and according to what I have been reading in the papers these last few years there are many abuses…It is so sad…but it is nice to see your pictures because it reminds me that there are squirrels and birds somewhere else in the world :) Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures with us :)

  8. Spook has been spooked…. month ago?

But I guess the effects haven’t worn off yet.

(wonder what little sine toenails sound like on crunchy, crispy?)

Yup, crunchy, crispy this morning (-9). Brrrrr.

    How do I know?

One of the neighbors got hopelessly stuck at 01:00, so I braved the cold and did my good deed for the day ;-)

But I could be brave ’cause I had a few items to bolster my strength. :-)

hmm…. I think I have done more then “think” :-O

  9. Little sine might be too small to hear :) Well done on the good deed. About Scotland, I did some thinking too and might want to change to goats instead of sheep, I’ve seen certain effects of summer and sheep [nasty!]. Will tell you some day ;)

  10. Wen: (sorry overlooked your comment earlier) I agree with you, Sunday is a day of rest and relaxation. You might not have squirrels in Malta but you do have cool chameleons! What about the hunters, they hunt for birds? If so: yes sad indeed! I’m happy you like my pictures :)

  11. hehe…. any time sheep were mentioned around my father who grew up on a farm he’d say, “Filthy animals!” But he wouldn’t expound when we asked.

Then there was always the story of his stop in Australia during the war when all they had was sheep burgers.

So you’ll have to tell me cause to this day I can only guess why they’re nasty :-O

  12. No fluffies or sines this morning before the predicted big storm.

But coming back from the store, Mr. Bunny was in the middle of the street. I slowed down to a crawl but he didn’t want to move till I was almost up to him.

Then he just took a few steps off to the side so I could stop, roll down the window (brrr), and talk to him for a bit :-)

  13. Sheep: I will tell you but it’s gross ;) Bunny? Sounds sweet, hope you had a nice chat :)
