The other day when I was at my mums I took a stroll down memory lane and managed to nick some old pictures. I have to scan them all still, but couldn’t resist scanning a few of my dad when he was a boy. I only have one picture of him about a year before he died but somehow I’d rather see pictures of him being a boy than him as an adult. It’s nice to see what he was like back then and how he lived in Indonesia. My friends tell me, these days I look like his younger sister…
Indonesia, the little girl is my grandmother. Below my dad, uncle max and some friends, last picture: my dad, my aunt and the dog.

Me: it started at an early age: cars, knowledge and booze…

A real coincidence!
I was over at my Mom’s within the week and looked through the same types of photos. I didn’t think about grabbing any to scan though…
And who is this with the cars and booze?
I had to bring them back with me to the UK, that’s why I took them and I wanted some nice ones from my dad

The one with the cars and booze is the same one who had quite a bit of a hangover yesterday
I don’t think the truck was mine, probably from one of my brothers but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was… I never liked girly stuff *grin*
Oh come on now! Sure that truck is yours, just admit it. You sure aren’t showing much interest in that little doggie (?)
Whatever is in that cup seems to be workin’
My dad used to take me to the garage next to the petrol station where he used to work. I was about five and could spend a whole day there without getting bored.
I loved the rows of huge tyres and the smell of petrol mixed with tobacco from my dads hands.
I was the one looking under the bonnet when I was 10, my brothers weren’t interested. So dolls? I haven’t got a clue what they are…
Memories. . . reminds me of my Dad’s pipe and the smell of regular – before unleaded – gas.
Meanwhile I’m playing with my GI Joe. . . oh, I had many of the original smaller Matchboxes too!!
What is it about dads and a hard day’s work smell? Probably something you register when you’re a kid…
Sweet!
I remember having great fun with my dad as well when ever I had to go to work with him on a building site as a kid.
Hi Stu, did you start demolishing the place?
Just kiddin; what did you do?
Those pics of you as a child are adorable!
Yeah, I know what you mean by the scent of fathers and a hard day’s smell. My dad was a mechanic as well. I could smell the oil and grease on my dad’s hands as well as feel the callouses on his hands from working on engines.
Hey Dalton,
How’s life?
Thank you!
How sweet memories can be hey? Funny how we seem to remember almost exactly the same thing about dads. Although my dad wasn’t really a mechanic [he worked for BP] he wasn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty…
